We don't have to settle for less.
A few examples of empty and unkept properties
The historic “square” which spans from the Post Office to the Movie Theatre would be classified as a historic zoning district. Buildings would be restored to their historical character, antique streetlamps installed, sidewalks expanded to increase pedestrian access, planters and benches installed, parking increased, and signage of storefronts uniform and consistent.
Other Long Island towns have accomplished such a plan. One of the most recent examples took place in Riverhead. Their historic theatre (with the same Art Deco design as the old Franklin Theatre) recently received an award-winning restoration:
Replanting trees throughout the community especially the business district and residential streets
Town roads repaved throughout the community
Increased presence of the Nassau County Police and greater staffing of the 5th Precinct Office call desk
Town of Hempstead to pass an ordinance restricting commercial and TLC trucks and cars on residential streets overnight
Zoning and occupancy limits strictly enforced with accountability for absentee landlords who do not maintain their residential and bussiness properities
Who are the major commerical and residential owners in Franklin Square?
Who are the owners of the commerical properties with empty buildings that are left unkept? Do they have the common good of the commnity at heart?
Why are unkept and hazardous sidewalks tolerated in our downtown?
Are these commerical properties owned by large corporations? Are they local residents? Out of state or international companies? Same for residential homes?
Why can't the Town and County enforce code violations for sanitation, parking, and unregistered car violations?
Why are violations to blight laws consistently tolerated? Is the Town and County incapable of providing for the common good of residents?
Who takes responsibility for helping reduce the number of cars on residental roads, many of which have commerical or TLC plates? Who is responsibile for enforcing occupancy codes for residential homes?
Who approves variance requests for zoning laws in residential areas? How can neighbors and residents provide input for these approvals?
Why are trees consistently cut down without being replaced as required by the Town Code?
Would any of the above be tolerated in nearby villages of Garden City, Stewart Manor, or Malverne? Why is it tolerated in our community?

Call our local officials and indicate to them with charity and respect that we will no longer tolerate unkept storefront, businesses, and residential homes that are in violation of the Town Code
